History

The newspaper was originally established as Hankyoreh Shinmun ({{korean|hangul=한겨레신문|labels=no}}) on 15 May 1988 by ex-journalists from The Dong-a Ilbo and The Chosun Ilbo. The Hankyoreh is the most critical of Japan among major South Korean media outlets.
