Life and career

Varney was born in Maine in 1836.BOOK, Adams, Oscar Fay, A Dictionary of American Authors, Volumes 1-2, Houghton, Mifflin, 1901, 397, BOOK, Herringshaw's National Library of American Biography, American Publishers' Association, 1914, 543, In the 1870s, he was living in Brunswick, Maine, while a decade later he was writing in Boston.He was a member of the Maine Historical Society.
