History
{{more citations needed section|date=March 2019}}NISA was created in 2014 as a way to encourage more people to save for retirement with investments. Each account is only allowed to invest Â¥1,200,000 each year with a total maximum limit of Â¥6,000,000 after which anything contributed and any capital gains over the limit is fully taxed.WEB,seekingalpha.com/article/1725162-japan-trying-to-kindle-an-equity-culture, Japan: Trying To Kindle An Equity Culture | Seeking Alpha, seekingalpha.com, WEB,www.accessj.com/2013/11/nisa-nippon-individual-saving-accounts.html, NISA: Nippon Individual Saving Accounts, Unlike other retirement tax-deferred accounts, a NISA is only allowed to hold stocks, ETFs, and trusts.WEB,www.bobsguide.com/2014/02/13/nri-conducts-nippon-individual-savings-account-nisa-usage-survey-findings-project-8-65m-nisa-holders-applicants-by-year-end/, NRI Conducts Nippon Individual Savings Account (NISA) Usage Survey, Findings Project 8.65M NISA Holders/Applicants by Year-End, February 13, 2014, Bobsguide, Bonds are not permitted in the accounts.WEB,www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/10/15/reference/tax-free-account-seeks-to-spur-investment/, Tax-free account seeks to spur investment, Tomoko, Otake, October 15, 2013, The Japan Times, This account is meant to be a mid-term investment option for those who don’t have iDeCo.WEB,www.jsda.or.jp/en/activities/research-studies/html/NISA.html, NISA:Japan’s new tax exemption scheme for investment by individuals | Japan Securities Dealers Association, www.jsda.or.jp,Reserveç©ç«NISA
