Donji Vakuf is the Bosnian translation of "AÅŸağı Vakıf".

History

From 1929 to 1941, Donji Vakuf was part of the Vrbas Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. From April 1993 to 14 September 1995 the town's name was Srbobran (was occupied by Serbs paramilitary forces). During that time majority of Bosniaks are exile to neighboring town of Bugojno, and on 14 September 1995 was liberated by Bosnian Army. And the name of Donji Vakuf was reverted to original name.

Tourism

The village of Prusac lies just outside Donji Vakuf. Bosniaks make a pilgrimage to the nearby holy site of Ajvatovica in June. It is one of the biggest events in Bosnia.
