Southern Author’s Novel Deals with a Marital Struggle
RIMRIC / COLUMBIA, SC (31 May, 1998)
M.R.M. Parrott’s novel “To Lie Within the Moment,” set on the coast of Alabama, tells the story of how one man deals with his wife’s suicide. The book has just been released, available directly over the internet, using secure ordering, according to publisher, rimric press. The award-winning website address is rimric.com, offering a selection from the book.
“Imagine Jim, an intelligent man, who has seen his beloved Mary’s end,” the author says, “his series of moods are ripe for poetry.” The literary novel is reminiscent of Woolf, says the publisher. There is a controversial element to the story; a female character who is lover both to husband and wife, and the novel depicts bisexual scenes right alongside more traditional ones.
The novel is based partly on the emotional breakup of the author’s own marriage, in 1991. “In a sense, my wife disappeared in a similar way, though still living,” Parrott says. It took six years for the book to germinate, Parrott adds. “Having tried many times to start on a novel dealing with my feelings, I finally was able to sit down and write the whole thing in three months.” The book doesn’t end on a sour note, though, says the publisher. “At the end of the day, around which the whole story revolves, there is a suggestion about the future,” says Parrott.
The publisher has decided to distribute the book exclusively over the internet, avoiding most bookstores, sources say. “The web has obviously become extremely important to commerce,” says Parrott, “we can save readers time and money by distributing world-wide over the web; I wrote the book only last summer, and wanted to get it out to the world sooner.” Ignoring the traditional wholesalers, distributors and stores, Parrott says, allows he and the publishing house to “reduce the delays and returns which plague the industry.” The publisher has partnered with an internet based consulting firm, to distribute the book in a web-savy arrangement which is fast and simple. “The purchasing process is the same as what is offered by the large online bookstores,” Parrott says, “and uses a secure ordering technology.”
M.R.M. Parrott’s books include the novel trilogy “Timeless”, a novella, “To Lie Within the Moment”, Philosophy and Science series “Dynamism”, monographs in Philosophy, and chapbooks of poems and short stories.
