Soc., 114, 1965, 514–538, 10.1090/S0002-9947-1965-0175782-0, His formal Ph.D. advisor was Saunders MacLane at the University of Chicago, but he actually finished his thesis under the guidance of Robert Vaught at the University of California, Berkeley.
