Against Time

We all obviously experience what we feel is Time itself, the “passage of time”, the “time of day”, and so on. However, the hard reality is that we cannot actually prove Time exists outside of our own perceptions and ways of organizing our experiences.

Many would counter these facts by citing Einstein, Lorentz, or any number of others who have worked on problems related to Time. None of it matters, though, because the fact remains there is no Time to detect or measure or travel through or experience in any way. This is a point Kant reached with his “Forms of Sense” in Critique of Pure Reason (1781). It is a corollary that there is no actual Space for us to experience, either, because Space is only another construct of our minds. Quantum Physics and Systems Theory bear this out, by showing us that all of Reality is one field of constant energy transformations.

What we're really experiencing is continuous Change, and our forms of sense construct the Duration of Events we take as evidence of Time. It is our Epistemology. Some might counter this by asking, “What about clocks? Don't they measure Time?” Well, no, clocks do not measure Time. They click off increments of their own internal workings which are based on our conceptions of hours and minutes and seconds, which we then presume means that Time itself has passed. We invented clocks, and they suit our forms of sense very well, but they prove nothing, temporally. “But,” they ask, “Experiments prove that clocks slow down at very high speeds, right?” Sure, and different types of clocks would slow at different rates due to their construction and workings, which still doesn't prove that Time exists, and illustrates another problem.

Therefore, all we can measure or experience is only continuous Change within the Universe's singular field of energy, which is not a separate realm of so-called Time. It's happening all around us, throughout our bodies and minds, our local surroundings, the Solar System, the Milky Way, and literally everywhere simultaneously. We cannot travel through Time, or manipulate it, or dilate it. Not even a Black Hole can dilate Time, because there is no Time to be dilated. A clock which is slowed by speed, such as with satellites in orbit whose clocks have to be corrected, is not measuring a dilation of Time itself, but a dilation of its own clicking or sequences. It doesn't matter if the clock is mechanical, atomic, digital, or computerized. With very high speeds comes higher and higher mass and resistance, which are only higher levels of electromagnetic energy throughout the subatomic field.

As we know from the Quantum Revolution in Science, electromagnetic energy is all which can be said to truly exist. No doubt these metaphysical problems are troubling, tearing apart theological and religious teachings, dismantling Relativity Theory and many other common beliefs. In this way, we really are living in a “Matrix”.
