Discontinuation

On May 5, 2013, during the opening keynote of its Adobe MAX conference, Adobe announced that it was retiring the "Creative Suite" branding in favor of "Creative Cloud", and making all future feature updates to its software (now appended with "CC" instead of "CS", e.g. Photoshop CC) available via the Creative Cloud subscription service rather than through the purchasing of perpetual licenses.WEB, Yeung, Ken,weblink Adobe Abandons Its Creative Suite to Focus on Creative Cloud, The next Web, 2013-05-06, 2013-05-26, Customers must pay a subscription fee and if they stop paying, they will lose access to the proprietary file formats,{{Citation | date = 2013-06-02 | url =weblink | title = Adobe casts cloud on budgets | newspaper = The Columbian}}.{{Citation | url =weblink | title = Why You Should Hate Adobe’s Creative Cloud | publisher = F stoppers}}. which are not backward-compatible with the Creative Suite{{Citation | url =weblink | title = Open Letter to Adobe about the Creative Cloud Subscription Model | publisher = Phisch eye | date = 2013-05-08 | place = DE | access-date = 2013-06-16 | archive-url =weblink" title="web.archive.org/web/20131103225848weblink">weblink | archive-date = 2013-11-03 | dead-url = yes | df = }}.{{Citation | url =weblink | title = Creative Cloud Complaints Darken Adobe’s View of the Future | newspaper = TidBITS}}.
